Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2017

Meeting started 7:00 PM

16 parents in attendance
Principal: Jason Lazon
Teacher Rep: Hersey

Guest Speakers: Jess; Family and Youth worker& Interac Club/Rotary Club: Allison and Jordan

Focus of family and youth worker in the school is to support staff and students; Jess also works on archives and alumni for KG.  Generally looks to make KG a better place for our kids.  Communication is a strong focus at KG.

Interac Program:

Encourage volunteer hours, empower kids to work towards making the world a better place. 

Fundraising efforts on various topics. Ex. Mexico Earthquake, Leprosy, Homelessness in the West End, look to raise funds to provide essentials for youth on the street.

Rotary help worldwide efforts and Interac looks to support kids to build connections, get together with ideas and discussions on current world topicsmentor younger kids within the school leadership and empowerment. 

Showcase at KG on focus and creativity… get involved and participate:

Basketball, Music, Sports, Arts, Technology, Projects, MYP Fair, Life Skills, Education Skills. 

Although we are a small school KG is never dull, continuously encourages kids to participate, get involved and take advantage of all the school has to offer.

Oct. 27, 2017Post Secondary Fair KG Gymnasium

All local schools will be on hand to provide information and answer questions you and your children may have about post-secondary programs, applications and enrollment.

Councillors and KG are also available to guide kids for application processes and submissions.

Mr. Lazon is looking to reach out to KG alumni and recent grads to come in and speak with current grade 11 and 12 in regards to what their own experiences good and bad have been, what to expect after high school, challenges and successes.

Bi-election in Vancouver to school trustee.  Please encourage parents to vote on this matter.  Oct. 14

Jazz band has officially started at KG. 

Sports Teams:
Volleyball – 3 teams
Soccer
Cross Country running group
Basketball – senior and junior boys

Principal Report:

New staff getting to know there way around the school, continued transition period however all going well. 

Vancouver School District continues to struggle having qualified teachers to hire and sub.  There is a shortage ongoing within the district.

Terry Fox Run was another success this year. KG has participated in this event since 1983.

Pro D – last Monday – teachers had workshops and guest speakers; focus on discussions around inclusion how we can help teachers identify and support at risk students.

Online interim report cards are now available.

Clubs Day: Oct. 6

Current Schools Fees collected for this year less than 50%.  There will be another email and phone message sent out to parents to remind them to pay fees. 

Direct Appeal to start Oct 16 – online donations preferred.
